PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Provide 2nd level support for Unix systems environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Hardware and software installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and
problem solving.
o Participate in on-call 7x24 remote support for Unix systems environment on
a rotating basis.
o Unix Systems related capacity, performance and security management.
o Develop understanding of user, management and technical issues and
requirements.
o This position will work in close co-operation with the other
Infrastructure teams (UNIX, NT, DBA, Middleware, Desktop), other IT users,
vendors and external parties as needed to achieve service objectives.
o Train and mentor junior staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience
UNIX - AIX P-series and Sun Solaris
o Unix Systems and O/S familiarity from workstations to Enterprise Servers.
Emphasis on AIX experience.
o Unix systems administration, utilities, scripting, programming.
o SAN (Storage Area Network) operation and management. HDS preferred.
o Tape libraries and backup software, Storagetek and Veritas Netbackup
preferred.
o Providing technical support and troubleshooting for production Unix
systems.
o Developing, implementing and testing system administration processes,
scripts and programs in a UNIX environment.
Education/Training
o University or College level and/or equivalent applicable IT experience.
Knowledge
o Working knowledge of the following:
o UNIX - AIX and Sun Solaris(AIX preferred at the start, but will learn
Solaris) systems administration including networking and security.
o Unix TCP/IP Networking Services. (DNS, MAIL, SSH, RSH, etc.)
o LAN/WAN administration and security.
o UNIX scripting and programming, including Open Source software.
o IT generic processes and procedures: systems management, security, change
control, disaster recovery, development, etc.
Skills and Abilities
o Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadlines when needed.
o Able to provide off hours on call support when needed.
o High accuracy and thoroughness in work.
o Very strong problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects
concurrently.
o Strong work organization and prioritization.
o Very good communication and personal skills to interact with all levels.
o Small to medium project management.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
o Extensive use of computers/screens.
o Provide rotating on call remote support for systems and users 7x24x365.
o Carries Blackberry/Cell Phone or other communication devise when on call.
