Our client is currently seeking a Systems Administrator / Operations
Support Specialist for a short term contract opportunity. Candidates
must be willing to work shift work in a 24/7 environment.
Our client's data centre maintains and supports various computer
hardware platforms including: Hewlett Packard UNIX servers, Intel
servers (Windows & Linux), Internet Appliances (e.g. Cache Servers,
Load Balancers, Firewall, etc.), tape libraries and Telecommunication
Components.
You will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
Operation of Data Centre
- Processes all computer production systems according to established
procedures, production commitments and service level agreements.
- Maintain backup and recovery infrastructure and ensures systems are
appropriately backed up. Takes appropriate action to recover data
when required.
-Creates and maintain complete documentation on all reported problems
from notification to resolution.
- Ensures appropriate user access to systems through the issuance of
identification codes, the management of security systems and adherence
to policy and procedures.
- Coordinate the flow of equipment in and out of the data center.
Maintain accuracy of inventory system for equipment.
- Process change requests for system modifications. This may include
recycling of services or servers (i.e. Reboot). Report using existing
change management tools on success or failure of Data Centre changes.
Facilities Management for the Data Centre raised floor environment
- Monitor environmental health of data center. Coordinate with
building facility services reported incidence and required changes.
-Maintain floor plan of existing equipment and availability for
future installation.
- Maintain electrical power distribution inventory and participate in
new installations.
System Monitoring Responsibilities:
- Using existing monitoring tools follow established procedure for
ensuring established SLA for availability and performance of
designated applications are maintained.
- Maintain the configuration of monitoring tools as applications and/
or equipment are added or removed from the Data Centre
As an ideal candidate, you bring experience with:
- Elementary systems administration (Windows, UNIX, NetWare)
- Familiarity with Enterprise server equipment (pref. HP)
- Familiarity with other data centre equipment (e.g. tape libraries,
UPS units, power distribution panels, patch panels, etc.)
- A+ certification is a definite asset.
